The inspection was led by Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Deputy Director (Lab/NEQS), and Mr. Binyameen, Deputy Director (R&I), under the supervision of the Director General, Pak-EPA, at the main traffic entry and exit point of ICT at Bara Kahu Bypass near Satra Meel Toll Plaza.

The drive focused on heavy and light-duty diesel vehicles, including buses, coasters, hiaces, pickups, and tankers, to assess compliance with NEQS smoke opacity limits. A significant proportion of vehicles were found non-compliant, and violators were fined and directed to undertake immediate maintenance. It was also observed that several vehicles lacked valid fitness certificates.

Pak-EPA is coordinating with the Islamabad Transport Authority, Excise and Taxation Department ICT and other stakeholders to formulate a comprehensive emission control strategy. The Agency reiterates its commitment to reducing vehicular emissions, controlling air pollution and ensuring strict compliance with NEQS across Islamabad.
