First training session on the submission of applications via Pakistan Biosafety Clearing-House (Pak-BCH) portal

Pak-EPA successfully conducted the first training session on the submission of applications via Pakistan Biosafety Clearing-House (Pak-BCH) portal. This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s commitments under Article 20 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.

The Pak-BCH portal enables Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBCs) to submit and track applications for GM-related work, reducing paperwork and ensuring real-time access to biosafety guidelines. This digital shift enhances compliance, transparency, and informed decision-making in GMO regulation.

The Director General of Pak-EPA emphasized the importance of digital transformation in biosafety governance and capacity building for young researchers. Technical experts provided hands-on training on four key application categories:

? Laboratory Manipulation Work

? Field Trials

? Commercialization

? Food, Feed & Processing (FFP)

Pak-EPA announced future training sessions nationwide to further strengthen Pakistan’s biosafety governance and international compliance.
