Islamabad, March 2025– The Environmental Monitoring Team of Pak-EPA under the supervision of Dr. Zaigham Abbas Director (Lab/NEQS) has visited two Integrated Resource Recovery Centers (IRRCs) located in D-17 and B-17, Islamabad. The visit aimed to assess suitable locations for the installation of a compost-making machine as part of a broader strategy to enhance organic waste management in the city. The initiative focuses on ensuring sustainable waste processing while promoting cost-effective resource utilization. During the assessment, it was observed that the selected locations for the composting and pet food converter machines are strategically positioned for maximum efficiency. These sites provide optimal conditions, including a minimum operational temperature of 10°C, ensuring the machines function effectively. Additionally, the pet food converter machine will be installed in a biosecure and hygienic environment to prevent contamination, facilitating the safe processing of food waste into pet food. By converting biodegradable waste into nutrient-rich compost, this initiative will significantly reduce the burden on landfills while promoting sustainable waste disposal practices. The compost produced will serve as a valuable resource for agriculture and landscaping, contributing to a circular economy where waste is repurposed into beneficial products.
