Enforcement Team of Pak-EPA initiated operation against the violators of Single-Use Plastic Items in Islamabad.

Islamabad, May 9, 2024 - Under the direction of Ms. Farzana Altaf Shah, Director General Pak-EPA, and the supervision of Dr. Zaigham Abbas Director (Lab/NEQS), with the support of ICT Administration the Enforcement Team of Pak-EPA intensified its efforts against single-use plastic items in various areas of Islamabad. In a series of field operations conducted on 3rd, 6th and 9th May, 2024, the Enforcement Team targeted locations such as Blue Area, Trail 3/4 of Marghalla Hills National Park, Khanna Pul and the Burma Town Islamabad. During these inspections, hotels, bakeries, wholesale shops, and cash-and-carry stores, were visited. Prominent among them were Tabaq Hotel, Salt n Pepper Hotel, Pak-Chinese Samosa Centre, Diet Chinese Samosa Centre, Jahangir Hotel, Haleem Ghar, Crown Pearl Hotel, Butt Karahi, Savour Foods, Waris Nihari, Fresco Sweets, Simla Bakery, Al-Haram Cash & Carry, and Quetta Tea Cafe near NADRA etc.

The Enforcement Team's actions resulted in the confiscation of a substantial amount of single-use plastic materials, approximately 320 kilograms. The Team also imposed fines of Rs.35,000 and issued warnings to 15 violators found in non-compliance with the Single-Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulation 2023. These proactive measures are part of Pak-EPA's ongoing commitment to enforce the Single-Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulations 2023 within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Pak-EPA emphasizes the importance of stakeholders' cooperation, including businesses and citizens, in adhering to the Regulations and embracing eco-friendly alternatives. The Agency remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the environment, promote sustainable practices, and mitigate the adverse effects of plastic pollution in the capital city.
