Director General Pak-EPA Visits Centaurus Mall to Strengthen Public-Private Partnership on Waste Management

Islamabad, October 16, 2025 — Director General of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency   (Pak-EPA), Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC & EC), visited Centaurus Mall today and held a productive meeting with its senior management to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices.
During the visit, Pak-EPA gifted green benches crafted from confiscated single-use plastic to Centaurus Mall, highlighting the Agency’s commitment to recycling and transforming plastic waste into eco-friendly, usable products to raise public awareness about sustainable waste management.
DG Pak-EPA emphasized the importance of fostering public-private partnerships to address urban waste management challenges effectively. DG Pak-EPA and the management of the Centaurus Mall agreed to collaborate on future initiatives, including capacity building and environmental training programs for senior management, middle management, and operational staff.
DG further suggested the installation of Reverse Vending Machines for plastic bottles at the mall to encourage public participation in recycling efforts and promote responsible plastic disposal. Additionally, DG recommended segregation of waste at source and proposed that plastic waste collected at Centaurus be handed over to Pak-EPA for recycling and repurposing.
If this model of collaboration proves successful, Pak-EPA intends to replicate it across other major shopping malls and commercial centers in Islamabad to strengthen sustainable waste management practices. Both organizations agreed to maintain close coordination and communication to ensure the effectiveness and continuity of these initiatives.
