Pak-EPA and Islamabad Police Conduct Vehicular Emission Testing on IJP Road

The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), in a joint effort with the Islamabad Police,  conducted a significant vehicle emission testing drive on IJP Road, IJP road as a major artery connecting the twin cities and it's role as a transit point for traffic to and from other cities.  This campaign is aimed to monitor and control air pollution caused by vehicular emissions within the capital city.
During the operation heavy and light vehicles were inspected, the results of the testing revealed varying levels of compliance with existing environmental standards: 15 vehicles were issued challans (fines) for exceeding the permissible smoke emission limit, with smoke levels found to be more than 50 percent. Notably, no vehicles were impounded, as none were found to have smoke levels exceeding 65 percent, which is the threshold for impoundment. Additionally, many vehicles received warnings for having smoke levels between 40 to 50 percent, indicating a need for attention to their emission systems. Conversely, 20 vehicles successfully passed the emission test, demonstrating compliance with the regulations by maintaining smoke levels between 10 to 40 percent.
This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of Pak-EPA and Islamabad Police to ensuring a healthier and cleaner environment for the residents of Islamabad. Similar drives are expected to continue as part of ongoing efforts to combat air pollution.
