Enforcement Actions Against Single-Use Plastic Items in Islamabad

January 23, 2026. Enforcement Team VII (Potohar Circle) accompanied by Area Magistrate conducted crackdown on violators of single use plastics (prohibition) regulations 2023 in Shamas Colony (Sector H-13) Islamabad. It was observed that traders (karyana and general store, medical stores, fruits and vegetable vendors, meat shops, milk shops, tandoors, bakery and sweet shops, cloth shops, shoe shops, food shops etc.) without exception, were using single-use plastic items. Awareness was raised among all traders to use eco-friendly alternative packaging/packing material and comply with the said regulations in the interest of environmental protection. Fifteen (15) warning notices were served upon non-compliant traders. Thirty Five (35) Kg single use plastics was seized from traders. Furthermore, it is also informed that Two illegal (without having NOCs and approvals from relevant government departments except Islamabad Food Authority) running/operational food manufacturing units/facilities were spotted in residential area and visited thereon; two challans (Rs. 10, 000 each) were issued to the managers/supervisors of the said facilities.  Ninety (90) Kg Single use plastics was seized from the said facilities. Subsequenty, Assistant Commissioner (Potohar Circle) was promptly apprised about the said facilities and it was recommended to take action against them as per relevant provisions of law; rules and regulations made there.   Pak-EPA reiterates it's commitment to enforce the Single-Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulations 2023 within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) limits, in collaboration with ICT administration thereby making Islamabad plastic-free area.
