Pak-EPA conducted a crackdown against single-use plastic items in the Nilor area of Islamabad
On April 30, 2025, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) conducted a crackdown against single-use plastic items in the Nilor area of Islamabad. The operation was led by Assistant Director Muhammad Rashid Cheema and Field Coordinator Ibrahim Khan. During the activity, around 45 kilograms of banned plastic items were seized, including plastic bags, parcel wrappers, Styrofoam containers, plastic straws, and cups. Warnings were issued to 27 shops, and the local community was informed about the harmful effects of using such materials. This action was carried out under the Single-Use Plastics (Prohibition) Regulations, 2023. According to these rules, the production, sale, and use of specific single-use plastic items are strictly banned in the Islamabad Capital Territory. Items such as polythene bags, plastic cutlery, and Styrofoam-based products are no longer allowed due to their serious impact on health and the environment.
