Pak-EPA Vehicular Emission Compliance Inspection on N-5 Highway, Islamabad
To check compliance with National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) of motor vehicles exhaust and noise in Islamabad Capital Territory, a monitoring team of Pak-EPA in collaboration with Islamabad Traffic Police conducted an inspection on N-5 highway, Near sector H-14 & Quaid e Azam international hospital on 18th November 2025. Targeted monitoring of diesel engine vehicles (buses, trucks, coasters, hiaces, pickups, tankers, etc.) was conducted to check vehicular emissions, especially smoke opacity. A significant proportion of vehicles were found non-compliant, and violators were fined and directed to undertake immediate maintenance. Furthermore, based on the continuous monitoring exercises, Pak-EPA is engaging other stakeholders (Islamabad transport authority, Islamabad traffic police, excise and taxation department) for taking prompt measures to control air pollution, including smog, and ensure compliance with the NEQs for motor vehicle exhaust and noise.
