Environmental Monitoring Visit to Marble Industries in Islamabad Industrial Area
Islamabad, May 8, 2025 — The Environmental Monitoring Team (EMT) of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) conducted an inspection of marble industries located in the I-9 and I-10 Industrial Area, Islamabad, on May 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM. The primary objective of the visit was to assess the final discharge of wastewater, dust emissions, and noise levels to determine compliance with SMART (Self-Monitoring and Reporting Tool) regulatory conditions. During the visit, six marble units were inspected: The EMT observed that some industries had installed septic tanks prior to discharging effluent into nearby drains (nullahs), demonstrating efforts toward environmental compliance. However, violations were also noted at certain facilities where discharge practices and emissions were found to be polluting the environment. Appropriate legal and regulatory actions will be taken against these non-compliant units in accordance with environmental laws. Pak-EPA remains committed to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment and will continue routine monitoring to enforce compliance and minimize industrial pollution.
