Enforcement Drive of Pak-EPA on Vehicular Emissions in Islamabad
Islamabad – August 22 & 25, 2025– The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), under the supervision of Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Deputy Director (Lab/NEQS), conducted vehicular emissions monitoring and control in Islamabad to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) for Motor Vehicle Exhaust and Noise (SRO 72(KE)/2009). The standards regulate carbon monoxide (CO), smoke opacity for diesel vehicles, and noise levels to control air and noise pollution.
On August 22, 2025, monitoring of 25 diesel trucks at I-11 Sabzi Mandi showed that 17 vehicles complied with NEQS while 8 exceeded permissible smoke opacity levels. A follow-up exercise on August 25, 2025, at Entry Point No. 26 Srinagar Highway tested 50 vehicles, with most found compliant and one vehicle fined for non-compliance These monitoring highlight Pak-EPA’s continued enforcement efforts to curb vehicular pollution and safeguard public health.
