Public Hearing on Replacement of Existing Conductance Main (ECM) from Rawal Treatment Plant to Waterworks (Sufaid Tanki), Rawalpindi
On 27th June 2024 a public hearing was convened by the Director of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the replacement of existing conductance main (ECM) from Rawal treatment plants to waterworks (Sufaid Tanki), Rawalpindi. The hearing aimed to evaluate potential environmental and social impacts of the project and mitigation measures were proposed. PMU and PICIIP proposed a replacement current conductance from the Rawal treatment plant to Sufaid Tanki Waterworks. The EPA team, Director (EIA/Monitoring) and Deputy Director mediated the proceedings. The objective of the hearing was to provide a platform for the community to express their views, concerns and suggestions regarding the Project. The public raised concerns about the environmental footprint of such activities and durability of plastic pipes, issue of microplastics, less involvement of stakeholders and impact on biodiversity. During the hearing Director of EIA led a constructive dialogue to address public concerns and ensure a transparent evaluation process. The proponent handled the situation with patience and reiterated the Agency's dedication to sustainable development practices in Islamabad.
